Spiderweb Number Trace Printable For Toddlers

Save This

If you are planning your bug week, creepy crawlies, Halloween math center, this spiderweb number trace printable is a perfect match! It is hands on fun for toddlers, and a great way to work on fine motor skills and numbers 1-5.

While this particular printable was created with toddlers in mind, it got the stamp of approval from my preschool kiddos because, well, spiders are cool.

Toddler Approved Printable Because Flies Are NOT Cool!

The week we were working on our spiderweb number trace activity we ended up having a real-life moment that cracked me up a bit. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

Our daycare doors are open a lot in the warm weather and occasionally we get a visitor, like a fly.

On one particular day at lunch, one of my littles freezes mid climb in her chair. She whispers, “there’s a fly.” Eyes wide, starring at it sitting on the edge of the table.

“Okay,” I tell her, “just swoosh it away.”

“I can’t, I’m so scared,” she whispers. I swear she and this fly are making eye contact.

I grab the fly swatter, take care of the situation, and she looks at me like I’ve just rescued her from certain doom.

“Thank you for saving me.” She says.

Now here I was a little concerned the kiddos would feel bad about adding fly cut outs to their spiderweb. Not in this house.

Do you ever look at a printable and think, one and done. After we use this then we’re done. Then we’re on to the next thing.

The truth about most printables, there are endless ways to use them!

When I create printables for my group, it isn’t just to fill the moment, it’s to fill the week if I need to.

We are learning many different fine motor skills, even when we’re reintroducing the same printable task, in this case, counting from 1-5.

More Ways You Can Use This Spiderweb Number Trace Printable

The obvious way to use this activity is to cut out the little bugs and count/add that many onto the page. But there are so many more ways you can use this!

  1. Make playdough bugs and playdough snakes. Turn the snakes into the numbers and add that many playdough bugs to the page
  2. Do a Dot markers are a toddler favorite!!
  3. Trace the number with a marker or paint
  4. Use fingerprints to make bugs
  5. Use with dot stickers or bug stickers

You can also laminate these to use again and again.

  • Use washable or dry erase markers
  • Add Velcro dots to the circles and bug cutouts

Why Your Toddler Group Will Love This Activity

Aside from all the ways to play and checking out creepy crawlies with lots of legs, my toddler group wasn’t getting overwhelmed with the bigger numbers.

My goal is to always meet these littles where they are, and while they can count to 3 or 8 or 15, do they know what those numbers look like? Do they know what they mean? Do they want to sit while you go through numbers 1-10?

The answer to all of these is probably no.

We are giving our toddlers a visual of what the numbers actually are in a small dose their little minds (and attention spans) can handle.

But Spiders Aren’t Bugs/Insects

Yes, I know. You know. This isn’t really a conversation I am going to have with my toddler group.

To them, anything creepy crawly with legs is in that bug category.

If it bugs you (heh) to add this to your bug unit, hang on to it until your spiders and web theme. Your Halloween week. Your arachnids week.

If you want to explain to your littles the difference between insects and arachnids, this site will help you break it down. My preschool group was intrigued.
